TSWA honors college players of week - Nov. 3

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Sports Writers Association has announced the Nov. 3 College Players of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

FOOTBALL: Taylor Crumedy from Chattanooga was honored as the TSWA Football Offensive Player of the Week after posting a career-high 124 receiving yards with a touchdown in their win over VMI, 24-10, to improve to 6-3 overall and keep pace for the top spot in the Southern Conference standings at 5-1.

Late in the first half, Battle Alberson found Crumedy for a career-best 66-yard score to put the Mocs ahead 14-3 at the intermission.

With only four receptions on the day, he averaged 31 yards per reception with 28- and 25-yard efforts.

Over the last two weeks, Crumedy has made seven catches, five of which were for 25 yards or more. Additionally, his 203 yards over the last two games make up over 85% of Chattanooga’s 238 passing yards.

Brady Weatherly from Carson-Newman was recognized as the TSWA Football Defensive Player of the Week after a 41-7 win over Catawba to improve to 8-1 and 6-1 in league play.

Weatherly had a pair of strip sacks, and both came on the same drive in the second quarter. On a second-down play, he got to the Mason Fortune for a seven-yard loss and got the football loose, but the ball went out of bounds.

Five plays later, on a third down, Weatherly found more “fortune” with another seven-yard sack and fumble. Despite Catawba recovering the fumble, they were forced to punt.

It marked the ninth time since 2000 that a Carson-Newman player had two forced fumbles in a game.

Finishing the game with a team-high six tackles, he now has 35 for the season and three sacks.

MEN’S SOCCER: Chris Douglas puts an exclamation point on the TSWA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards, as he earned his sixth weekly honor this season.

In the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Oct. 31 against Mississippi Christian, he earned a brace as he scored in the 57th and 76th minutes to advance to the semifinals.

Douglas totaled four shots, three on target, in the win.

Scoring in four consecutive matches, the Trojans are 13-1-2 this season as they head to their first GSC Tournament semifinal.

This is the last weekly honor for men’s soccer for the 2026 season.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Sewanee’s Pope Scurlock collects her second TSWA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week accolade after a three-goal effort, including two game winners, as the Tigers enter the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on a four-match win streak and a 10-4-3 overall record.

In a non-conference bout with Belhaven on Oct. 27, her 11th-minute goal was enough to knock off the Blazers, 2-0.

After scoring the Tigers’ second goal in the 73rd minute in a 2-0 win at Berry on Oct. 30, she netted another game-winner, this time at Oglethorpe on Nov. 1. Tied at one goal each in the 81st minute, she scored her 10th of the season to clinch the victory over the Stormy Petrels.

She enters the postseason with 21 points on the season in 17 matches played.

This is the final weekly award for women’s soccer for the 2026 season.

VOLLEYBALL: Mya Bolton of Belmont was recognized as the TSWA Volleyball Player of the Week after averaging over five digs per set for the Bruins in wins over Drake and UIC to improve to 14-9 overall and 11-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Against Drake on Oct. 30, she had a match-high 33 digs with two service aces in a four-set win.

The next day against UIC, in a back-and-forth five-set victory for the Bruins, she added 13 digs with an ace to extend Belmont’s current win streak to six.

Ranked fifth in the league in digs, Bolton has 368 digs on the season, averaging over four per set.
