TSWA honors college players of the week - Dec. 9

NASHVILLE – Maryville College’s Chase Morgan earned TSWA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, averaging 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists in two wins for the Scots, as announced Tuesday by the organization.

He netted 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting with eight boards, five assists and three steals against Johnson & Wales [NC]. He followed that with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals versus East Texas Baptist, connecting on 10-of-17 shots overall. Morgan is averaging 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 11 games this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes was voted Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, posting 28 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals in a win against Virginia in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

She connected on 7-of-17 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers and made 12-for-13 at the foul line. She became the fastest Commodore to score 1,000 career points, accomplishing the feat in 42 career games, surpassing Chantel Anderson’s previous record of 57 games.
