MEN’S BASKETBALL: Memphis’ Crawford named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Memphis guard Markel Crawford earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, netting 21.5 points with 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two Tigers victories.
The Memphis, Tenn., native, he connected on 9-of-12 shots overall and finished with 19 points, a season-high eight rebounds and two assists in a 70-61 win over Connecticut. The junior followed that with 24 points and three assists in just 26 minutes at Tulane, hitting 8-of-11 shots overall with a career-best five 3-pointers.
Crawford is averaging 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Tigers, who stand 12-4 and 2-1 in AAC play.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s McCabe earns TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University’s Sally McCabe garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, averaging 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.5 blocks in a pair of victories for the Bruins.
The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native posted 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a 71-66 victory over UT Martin. The junior center recorded a season-high 19 points and tied season-bests with 13 rebounds and seven blocks in a win against Southeast Missouri.
McCabe is averaging 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game this season for the Bruins, who are currently 12-5 overall and 4-0 in OVC action.
