NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced the all-state teams for Division II football on Thursday, which includes 17 offensive and 13 defensive players in each of three classes.

College players of the week honored by TSWA - Jan. 6

NASHVILLE – Rhodes College’s Phil Dotson earned TSWA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, posting 29.0 points and 4.0 assists in two games for the Lynx, as announced Tuesday by the organization.

He netted 42 points in just 27 minutes of action against Westminster College, hitting 15-of-22 shots overall, including 9-for-14 from 3-point range, adding three rebounds and two assists. He followed that with 16 points and six assists in the conference opener versus Millsaps College.

Dotson is averaging 21.8 points and 3.1 assists in 12 games this season with seven outings of 20-plus.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes was voted Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 33.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals in wins at Arkansas and versus LSU.

She opened the week by matching her season-high in scoring with 35 points and matched her career-best with eight assists at Arkansas in the SEC opener, connecting on 13-of-26 shots overall with three 3-pointers. She added four rebounds and three steals against the Hogs.

Blakes netted 32 points and four assists in a home win over LSU, including 15 points in the fourth quarter with a pair of 3-pointers. She registered 10 of Vanderbilt’s final 13 points to close out the game. She also assisted on the go-ahead 3-pointer by Aubrey Galvan with 2:05 remaining, giving the Commodores a lead they would never relinquish.

She is posting 25.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 15 games this season.

TSWA names college players of the week - Dec. 23

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene’s Jax Abernathy earned TSWA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, averaging 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games for the Trojans, as announced Tuesday by the organization.

He recorded 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range, with three rebounds and three assists versus Valdosta State. He followed that with 22 points, five boards and three assists in a four-point loss against West Florida. Abernathy is leading the Trojans with 15.7 points per game in 11 outings this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Tennessee Tech’s Cam Mathews was voted Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, collecting 26.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two victories for the Golden Eagles. She scored a career-best 34 points against Southeast Missouri, connecting on 10-for-14 shots overall, including 6-for-9 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, adding five rebounds.

She netted 19 points with four 3-pointers and eight boards versus UT Martin. Mathews is averaging 11.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 10 games this season.

NASHVILLE – Union University’s Terrence Ringo, Jr., earned TSWA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, posting 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a pair of wins, as announced Tuesday by the organization.

He recorded 18 points and eight boards, hitting 8-of-10 shots from the field, versus Blue Mountain, and followed that with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists against Christian Brothers. His tip-in with 3.6 seconds remaining put the Bulldogs in front for good versus CBU.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Tuti Jones was voted Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, registering a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds against 15th-ranked Kentucky.

She netted a season-high 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, adding five assists and three steals. She was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line and scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter.
