NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced all-state teams for boys and girls tennis Thursday, which includes four singles and two doubles teams in each classification with two classes in Division I and two classes in Division II for both girls and boys.

TSWA announces college players of the week - May 6

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay redshirt freshman infielder Cole Johnson had a strong week at the plate, leading to his selection Tuesday as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s College Baseball Player of the Week.

The Austin, Texas, product batted .643 as he had nine hits with a double and two home runs, bagging an RBI in all four games. He went 2-for-3 against No. 23 Ole Miss, slamming a two-run go-ahead round-tripper in the fourth inning. He also went 3-for-4 in the finale against Bellarmine, missing a triple from completing the cycle.

He also had four RBI and two stolen bases in the game. Johnson finished the week with 10 RBI and 16 total bases for a 1.143 slugging percentage.

On the hill, Tennessee Tech senior southpaw Jared Herzog was named the Pitcher of the Week, throwing the Golden Eagles’ first complete game of the season in a 7-1 victory over Southeast Missouri. The Ottawa, Ill., product held SEMO to one run on seven hits and four walks. He recorded four strikeouts in his second victory of the season.

SOFTBALL: Middle Tennessee freshman outfielder Macie Harter earned Player of the Week honors as she hit .556, going 5-for-9 in the Blue Raiders’ sweep over UTEP. She had two extra-base hits with five RBI. The Ashland City, Tenn., native had two multi-hit games as she went 2-for-3 in the opener with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.

She then went 2-for-4 in game two with an RBI triple – setting the Blue Raider program record for single-season triples with six. Harter also had a two-run single in the series finale.

In the circle, Chattanooga junior pitcher Taylor Long claimed the Pitcher of the Week honor after closing out the Southern Conference slate with a regular-season title. The Calhoun, Ga., native came on in relief in the finale versus East Tennessee State during the bottom of the fifth to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out three straight.

Long went on to strike out eight of the next nine batters to earn the win. For the week, she struck out 18 over 12 1/3 innings in three appearances to record a 0.57 ERA.

College players of the week recognized - April 29

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second straight week, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s College Baseball Player of the Week honor went to Trevecca Nazarene senior Cade Moore as the Terre Haute, Ind., native came up big to help the Trojans into the postseason.

In a do-or-die series on the road at Lee, Trevecca went 2-1 as Moore hit .538 – 7-for-13 – as he collected three runs scored, two doubles, one home run with five total RBI. Moore had a .600 on-base percentage and was 2-for-3 on stolen bases.

On the hill, Belmont’s Zane Brown earned the Pitcher of the Week award after he threw a no-no against Valparaiso. The sophomore righty from Cottontown, Tenn., went the full nine, allowing just two walks. He also struck out a career-high nine in the victory.

The no-hitter was the 12th in Belmont history, the first since a combined no-no between James Buckelet and Greg Brody on April 5, 2014, against UT Martin and the first solo no-hitter since Lance Sewell vs. Martin Methodist in 1997.

SOFTBALL: Union senior Morgan Jennings had a big week to close out her career and earn Player of the Week honors. The Senatobia, Miss., product batted .545 -- 6-for-11 in her final series with two doubles, two triples, two RBI, eight runs scored, three stolen bases, twice hit by pitch and a sacrifice.

In her final game, Jennings ended a home run shy of the cycle.

In the circle, Chattanooga junior hurler Peja Goold was the Pitcher of the Week as she went 2-0 in the Mocs’ series against Samford, striking out 17 total in the series. In her first game, she struck out eight in a come-from-behind walk-off win. During the second game, the Stockton, Calif., native struck out nine and had a no-hitter going into the sixth. Goold finished allowing two hits and one run in the 5-1 victory.
