FOOTBALL: Middle Tennessee’s Stockstill, UT Martin’s Gilleylen earn TSWA weekly awards
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Middle Tennessee’s Brent Stockstill and UT Martin’s James Gilleylen were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for their efforts in contests from November 12-18.

Stockstill completed 30-of-33 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns for the Blue Raiders at Kentucky. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native was even more impressive in the second half, completing 20-of-21 for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

The 90.9 completion percentage was the second best in a single game in Middle Tennessee history and moved him into third nationally in completion percentage this season at 70.8. The three touchdowns ran his career total to 101, third-most in Conference USA history and tied for 23rd all-time in NCAA history with former Missouri QB Chase Daniel. Stockstill also moved into seventh on C-USA’s passing yardage list with 11,542.

Gilleylen posted a game-high 11 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack in UT Martin’s overtime loss at Tennessee State. The Tupelo, Miss., native registered five stops with 1.5 tackles for loss in the second quarter and added three tackles with 1.0 tackles for loss in the third period. The redshirt senior tallied a pass breakup and a sack in the fourth quarter.

Gilleylen finished the season with a team-leading 89 tackles, including 13.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, along with two pass deflections, two pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Carson-Newman’s Teichmann named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Carson-Newman’s Grant Teichmann earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists with one double-double in two victories for the Eagles.

The Brentwood, Tenn., native made four 3-pointers and netted 16 points while handing out 11 assists and grabbing six rebounds in a victory against Lees-McRae, only the third player in the last 12 years to post a points-assists double-double at Carson-Newman.

The senior guard followed that with 26 points, eight boards and four assists in a one-point win at King University. He made 9-of-12 shots overall with three 3-pointers and was 5-for-5 at the foul line against the Tornado.

Teichmann is averaging 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists through four games this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Carson-Newman’s Marosites garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Carson-Newman’s Kayla Marosites posted Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, registering 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two wins for the Eagles.

The Elizabethton, Tenn., native posted 14 points and 10 rebounds in a victory at Georgia College, hitting 6-of-7 at the foul line. The junior guard then collected 23 points, five boards and three assists in a win at North Georgia College & State University, connecting on 10-of-16 shots overall.
