King's Floyd, Trevecca's Hackett garner TSWA weekly honors

MEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s Floyd named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Jordan Floyd earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, averaging 26.0 points and 5.0 assists in a pair of wins for the Tornado.

The Stone Mountain, Ga., native netted 25 points with four rebounds and six assists off the bench at North Greenville, hitting 9-of-14 shots overall, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range. The junior guard recorded 27 points, four assists and two steals inn just 23 minutes off the bench against Southern Wesleyan, connecting on 8-of-15 shots with three more 3-pointers.

He was 8-for-8 at the foul line versus SWU and 10-of-10 at the charity stripe for the week. Floyd has scored at least 20 points in each of the last six games for the Tornado and is averaging a team-high 21.1 points with 2.2 assists in only 25.2 minutes per game this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Trevecca’s Hackett garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Trevecca University’s Callie Hackett garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, netting 25.5 points and 4.0 3-pointers per game in two contests for the Trojans.

The Carthage, Tenn., native scored a career-high 33 points at Walsh University, the second-most points scored in a single game in school history. The junior guard made 10-of-15 shots overall with five 3-pointers and was 8-for-8 at the foul line.

Hackett posted 18 points with three assists and two steals at Malone University, hitting three more triples. She was 7-of-10 at the foul line as well. She is averaging 17.0 points per game while shooting 42 percent from behind the arc.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Carson-Newman’s Clark named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Carson-Newman’s Charles Clark earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, posting his fourth career triple-double while registering 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists in two wins for the Eagles.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native collected his fourth career triple-double against Anderson University, the most for any active player in the NCAA. He finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, hitting 6-of-14 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers.

Clark made 6-of-11 shots and was 12-for-13 at the foul line for 24 points in an overtime victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. He moved into second place all-time in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring (2,178 points) and netted eight of his 24 points in overtime, adding four boards and five assists while playing all 45 minutes.

Clark is averaging 21.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: UT Martin’s Spray garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– UT Martin’s Kendall Spray earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, averaging 29.5 points and 7.5 3-pointers in a pair of wins for the Skyhawks.

The Lebanon, Tenn., native connected on 7-of-10 triples and netted a game-high 25 points in just 27 minutes against Austin Peay. The sophomore made 8-of-13 shots overall and added two assists and two rebounds.

Spray hit eight 3-pointers and helped the Skyhawks overcome an 18-point deficit versus Murray State, scoring 34 points. She finished 11-of-17 overall and 8-for-13 from behind the arc. It marked the sixth time in her career she has made eight or made 3-pointers in a game.

Spray ranks second nationally with 97 made 3-pointers this season while shooting 45 percent from behind the arc and averaging 17.9 points per game.

Sewanee's Thomas, King's West named TSWA Players of the Week

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Sewanee’s Thomas named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– University of the South’s Adrian Thomas earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Wednesday, posting 25.5 points and 15.0 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles in two wins for the Tigers.

The Chattanooga, Tenn., native recorded a career-high 32 points in a 99-96 victory over Rhodes College, hitting 12-of-17 shots overall and 8-for-10 at the foul line. The sophomore grabbed 13 rebounds against the Lynx as well.

Thomas followed that with 19 points and a career-best 17 boards in a win versus Hendrix College, connecting on 9-of-22 shots from the field. He ranks second in the Southern Athletic Association this season in points (19.6) and rebounds (8.9) per contest.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s West garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Kori West earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Wednesday, averaging 22.7 points and 16.0 rebounds with three double-doubles for the Tornado.

The Shelby, N.C., native matched her career-high with 22 points along with 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks at Erskine College. The sophomore made 9-of-15 shots overall and was 4-for-7 at the foul line in the victory.

West posted career-highs with 28 points and 20 rebounds in a win over Barton College, becoming the first 20-20 player since King moved to NCAA Division II. She connected on 11-of-13 shots overall and hit 6-of-8 free throws in the 68-60 victory.

She finished the week with 18 points and 13 rebounds in a win versus the University of Mount Olive for her seventh double-double of the season and fifth in the last six games. West is averaging 11.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest this season for the Tornado.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Windler named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont University’s Dylan Windler earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a pair of wins for the Bruins.

The Indianapolis, Ind., native netted 21 points, six boards and five assists against Murray State in a 79-72 victory, hitting 6-of-14 shots overall and 5-for-8 from 3-point range. Belmont overcame a halftime deficit en route to the win.

Windler followed that with a career-high 31 points versus Austin Peay, connecting on 11-of-16 shots overall. He made 7-for-9 from beyond the arc and registered eight rebounds and five assists as well.

Windler is averaging 17.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this season, ranking first in the OVC in rebounding and third in scoring.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Union’s Shumpert garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Chelsey Shumpert earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, recording 27.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game in three victories for the Bulldogs.

The Paducah, Ky., native netted a career-best 35 points versus Valdosta State, making 11-of-19 shots overall and 8-for-12 from 3-point range in the win. She added nine rebounds and six assists.

The senior guard posted 30 points, nine boards and six assists at West Alabama, connecting on 9-of-17 shots and 6-of-11 from behind the arc. Shumpert scored 17 points with four caroms and four assists at Montevallo to conclude the week.

She made 17-of-30 shots from 3-point range in the three outings as well as 15-of-21 at the foul line. Shumpert is averaging 24.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season for Union.

Memphis' Martin, Union's Perkins earn TSWA accolades

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Memphis’ Martin named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– University of Memphis guard Jeremiah Martin earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, averaging 28.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two victories for the Tigers.

The Memphis native scored a career-best 31 points versus Tulane, hitting 7-of-13 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers. He connected on all 15 free throw attempts in a 96-89 win, setting an American Athletic Conference record for most free throws made in a game without a miss. He also tied the league record for most foul shots made in a contest.

Martin followed that with 26 points, six rebounds and six assists at Temple, hitting 10-of-18 shots overall with two 3-pointers in an overtime victory. The Tigers have won three straight overall.

Martin is one of two players in the AAC to rank in the Top 5 in the league in scoring (18.5), assists (4.1) and steals (2.3) per game.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Jada Perkins earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, posting 29.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of victories for the Bulldogs.

The Jackson, Tenn., native made 10-of-13 shots overall and connected on 12-of-13 at the foul line for a career-high 32 points at Alabama-Huntsville. The junior guard added eight boards, three assists and five steals in a 74-67 victory.

Perkins followed that with 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists versus West Florida, hitting 11-of-16 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers. She made 21-of-29 shots combined in the two outings.

Perkins is averaging 10.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.5 assists per game for the Bulldogs, who are 16-1 overall.
