MEN’S BASKETBALL: Lipscomb’s Asadullah earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Lipscomb’s Ahsan Asadullah was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, posting 18.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.0 rebounds in two contests for the Bison.

The Atlanta, Ga., native netted 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in a come-from-behind win at Jacksonville, hitting 8-of-18 shots overall and 4-for-6 at the foul line. The sophomore center followed that with 17 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and two steals at North Florida, connecting on 8-of-11 field goals.

Asadullah has recorded 13 double-doubles on the year, including four straight and eight in his last nine games. He has nine contests of 20-plus points, 14 outings with 10-plus rebounds and nine games with five-plus assists. He is also the only player in the nation averaging 17.0 points (17.4), 9.0 rebounds (9.9) and 3.5 assists (3.9) this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Harmeyer repeats as TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Ellie Harmeyer garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, averaging 25.0 points and 16.0 rebounds in two wins for the Bruins.

The Kenosha, Wis., native registered 27 points and 19 boards, hitting 5-of-10 shots and 16-for-17 at the foul line at Morehead State. The senior then collected 23 points and 13 rebounds in 23 minutes at Eastern Kentucky, connecting on 8-of-12 shots and 5-for-5 free throws.

Harmeyer has posted eight 20-point double-doubles in her last 10 outings and has logged double-figure points in all but one contest this year. She remains the only player in the nation that averages over 18 points (19.0) and 12 rebounds (12.1) and has 20 total double-doubles on the season.

SOFTBALL: Maryville’s Deck, King’s Hughes garner TSWA Player of the Week honors
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Maryville College’s Courtney Deck and King University’s Emma Hughes earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, for games from February 17-23.

Deck batted .750 (9-for-12) with one double, a triple, nine runs scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases in the first four games of the season for the Scots. The Maryville, Tenn., native posted two hits with two runs and a walk against Centre College and singled, scored a run, collected one RBI and walked in the first game versus Webster University.

The freshman added a single, a walk, two runs scored and one stolen base in the second meeting with Webster and was 5-for-5 with a double, a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs in a second contest against Centre. Deck registered seven infield singles and reached on an error as well over the weekend.

Hughes recorded two victories in two complete games for the Tornado. The Rogersville, Tenn., native allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over UVA-Wise, retiring nine straight batters before giving up a solo homer in the fourth inning. The senior set down 11 of the final 13 hitters in the win as well.

She tossed a four-hit shutout against Milligan College, allowing two walks with five strikeouts. Hughes has posted a 2-2 record with a 1.33 ERA over four outings this season, giving up 19 hits in 27.0 innings with 24 strikeouts.

BASEBALL: Union’s Bozoian, Vanderbilt’s Hickman named TSWA Players of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Josh Bozoian and Vanderbilt’s Mason Hickman earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for games from February 17-23.

Bozoian batted .455 (5-for-11) in a three-game series against Alabama-Huntsville, posting four home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored. The Chino Hills, Calif., native was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the second game of the series versus the Chargers, hitting a solo homer in the second and fifth innings while adding an RBI single in the third.

The junior registered two more solo home runs in the series finale, the second one giving Union a 5-4 edge in the next-to-last inning. Bozoian is batting .311 with two doubles, six homers, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored in 11 contests this season.

Hickman tossed seven shutout innings in the series opener against Illinois-Chicago, giving up three hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. He matched his career-best in strikeouts in the win and pushed his scoreless innings streak to 17. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native also reached 200 career punchouts in the contest.

Hickman is 1-0 over 12.0 innings in two outings this season, giving up one unearned run on six hits with 15 strikeouts.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s Floyd earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Jordan Floyd was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 33.5 points in two games for the Tornado.

The Stone Mountain, Ga., native posted 29 points, four rebounds and four assists at Emmanuel College, making 12-of-13 free throws. The senior guard followed that with 38 points, three boards and two assists against Chowan University. He connected on 14-of-22 shots overall, including 8-for-14 from 3-point range, and marked his 15th contest with 30-plus points this season.

Floyd is averaging 31.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25 games this year while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Harmeyer named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Ellie Harmeyer garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, registering 29.0 points and 15.0 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles for the Bruins.

The Kenosha, Wis., native netted 28 points with 18 boards and four assists against Tennessee State, making 7-of-12 shots and 12-for-17 at the foul line. The senior forward tied her career-high with 30 points along with 12 caroms versus Jacksonville State, connecting on 10-of-17 shots with three 3-pointers. She added 7-for-11 free throws.

Harmeyer is averaging 18.6 points and 11.8 rebounds in 25 contests this season.

SOFTBALL: Carson-Newman’s Smith, Union’s Davis garner TSWA Player of the Week honors
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Carson-Newman’s Shannon Smith and Union University’s Parker Davis earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, for games from February 10-16.

Smith batted .500 (7-for-14) with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs and four runs scored in four games last week for Carson-Newman. The Channahon, Ill., native singled and walked versus Young Harris and collected three hits with two doubles and two RBIs at Erskine College.

The freshman catcher hit a grand slam against King University and recorded a solo homer with an RBI single and three runs scored at Lander University. Smith is batting .556 (10-for-18) with 10 RBIs and six runs scored in six games this season.

Davis struck out 12 and allowed four earned runs over 17.0 innings in two extra-inning contests for Union. The Adamsville, Tenn., native gave up two earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts in a 4-3, nine-inning win versus Georgia Southwestern State.

The senior hurler allowed two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in an eight-inning defeat against Coker College. Davis is 3-4 in seven appearances over 39.1 innings this season, striking out 28.

BASEBALL: Tech’s Hinchman, Middle Tennessee’s Wigginton named TSWA Players of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Tennessee Tech’s Jason Hinchman and Middle Tennessee’s Peyton Wigginton earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, for games from February 10-16.

Hinchman batted .692 (9-for-13) with five home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs scored in three victories against Evansville. The Winston, Ga., native belted a pair of solo homers in the opening game of the series and collected three hits with a run scored in the second contest versus the Purple Aces.

The junior was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBIs, including three home runs, in the series finale. Hinchman hit a solo homer in the sixth inning and a three-run home run in the seventh. He then drilled a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, helping the Golden Eagles erase a 10-2 deficit in an 11-10 victory.

Wigginton tossed seven-plus shutout innings at North Carolina, allowing five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. He retired 13 straight batters from the end of the fourth inning into the eighth before giving up a game-tying solo homer with two outs in the eighth. Only two Tar Heel runners reached second base and just one made it to third before the home run.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s Floyd earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Jordan Floyd was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, netting 43 points apiece along with 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two victories for the Tornado.

The nation’s leading scorer in Division II, the Stone Mountain, Ga., native posted 43 points in a double overtime win at Erskine College, hitting 15-of-31 shots overall with three 3-points and making 10-for-13 at the foul line. He added seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in 46 minutes of action.

The senior guard collected 43 points in a come-from-behind triumph at the University of Mount Olive three days later, connecting on 16-of-27 field goals and 7-for-11 from behind the arc. He recorded a career-best nine boards along with four assists and four steals. Floyd scored the final 11 points on a 15-0 run that gave King a 90-80 lead with 2:31 remaining in the contest.

He has posted 40-plus points six times this season and has scored exactly 43 points, the King single-game school record, four times this year. Floyd also set the single-season scoring record, registering 718 points through 23 games, surpassing the mark of 684 set by Mark Dockery in 2010-11.

Floyd is averaging 31.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this year.

– Middle Tennessee’s Anastasia Hayes garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, netting 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games for the Blue Raiders.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native scored a career-best 33 points at North Texas, adding four steals. She made 14-of-25 field goals overall and hit all five free throws in the victory. It marked the most points a Conference USA player has scored against a conference opponent this season.

The redshirt sophomore followed that with 16 points, four boards and six assists at Rice. She has netted double figures in every game this season and is averaging 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 23 outings this year.

SOFTBALL: Middle Tennessee’s Cushing, Tech’s Arden garner TSWA Player of the Week honors
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Middle Tennessee’s Lexi Cushing and Tennessee Tech’s Alyssa Arden earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades, respectively, for games from February 3-9.

Cushing batted .556 (10-for-18) with three home runs, four RBIs and eight runs scored in six games for the Blue Raiders in Fullerton, Calif. The Flower Mound, Texas, native singled, walked and scored twice versus UC-Riverside and hit a solo homer while walking twice and scoring four runs against Utah State.

The senior collected two hits with a solo homer and two RBIs versus Loyola Marymount, was 3-for-3 against San Jose State and homered again among two hits versus Pacific.

Arden registered two wins and a save over 14.2 innings of work in three outings at the Mercer Invitational. The sophomore struck out nine in a complete-game victory versus Mercer, working around six walks and eight hits to defeat the Bears.

The Goodlettsville, Tenn., native allowed three runs on four hits with five strikeouts in a win against Wright State and posted a save versus Dayton with 2.2 innings of relief, giving up two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Union’s Boykin earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Tyree Boykin was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 30.5 points in a pair of road wins for the Bulldogs.

The Clarksville, Tenn., native connected on 11-of-21 shots with six 3-pointers and made 5-for-7 at the foul line in a one-point victory at West Georgia, finishing with 33 points. The sophomore guard followed that with 28 points and four rebounds at Shorter University, hitting 8-of-15 overall from the field with six more triples and 6-for-7 at the foul line.

Boykin is averaging 20.3 points and 3.1 boards while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range in 20 contests this season for Union.

Hayes is averaging 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season for the Blue Raiders. She has scored 20-plus points in six outings and netted double figures 15 times in 22 contests this year.

– Lipscomb’s Ahsan Asadullah was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, posting 21.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists in two contests for the Bison.

The Atlanta, Ga., native opened the week with 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a four-point loss to Jacksonville, hitting 8-of-20 shots overall and 4-for-6 at the foul line. He added one steal and two blocks against the Dolphins.

The sophomore connected on 10-of-23 shots, registering 23 points with a career-high 18 boards and eight assists along with three steals versus North Florida. Asadullah has scored 20-plus points in five of his last seven games and has recorded seven double-doubles this year. As a center, he ranks third in the Atlantic Sun Conference in total assists.

He is averaging 16.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 20 contests this season.

The Kenosha, Wis., native netted 26 points with 18 rebounds at Murray State, hitting 8-of-14 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers. She made 8-for-10 at the foul line and added three assists and one block.

Harmeyer collected the winning layup with 1.4 seconds remaining in a win at Austin Peay, finishing with 22 points and 17 boards. The senior connected on 6-of-15 shots and hit all 10 foul shots versus the Govs.

She is averaging 17.9 points and 11.5 rebounds in 19 games this season.
