King's Floyd, Belmont's Harmeyer earn TSWA weekly accolades

MEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s Floyd earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Jordan Floyd was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 29.0 points in two outings for the Tornado.

The Stone Mountain, Ga., native made 5-of-12 shots overall and 7-for-10 at the foul line for 18 points along with seven rebounds and four assists versus Southern Wesleyan. The senior guard netted a career-best 40 points against Barton College, making 12-of-21 shots with three 3-pointers. He added 13-for-16 at the foul line for the third 40-point game in program history.

Floyd has scored 30-plus points in five of the team’s 10 games this season. He is averaging 27.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest this year.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Harmeyer named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Ellie Harmeyer garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, posting 21.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two victories for the Bruins.

The Kenisha, Wis., native connected on 6-of-12 shots and 8-for-10 at the foul line for 21 points along with 15 rebounds in a one-point win over Lipscomb, her fifth double-double of the season. The senior forward followed that with 21 points and eight boards against Middle Tennessee, hitting 8-of-14 shots overall.

Harmeyer is averaging 17.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in 10 contests this season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Union’s Parks earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Ty Parks was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, posting 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two wins for the Bulldogs.

The Pocahontas, Tenn., native collected 14 points and five rebounds with three 3-pointers in a victory over Fisk University. The sophomore guard followed that with 26 points, 11 boards and three assists in a win over McKendree University, hitting 9-of-14 shots overall and 6-for-7 at the foul line.

Parks is averaging 13.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in nine games this season for Union.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Bryan’s Luna named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Bryan College’s Deandra Luna garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, averaging 26.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two wins for the Lions.

The Sparta, Tenn., native registered 12 points, four rebounds and nine assists in a conference victory at Brenau University. The junior guard exploded in a road win over Milligan College, netting 41 points with six boards and three assists. She made 15-of-21 shots overall and 7-for-10 from 3-point range for the third most points in a single game in program history.

Luna is averaging 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists through 11 games this season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Muszynski earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Nick Muszynski was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a pair of contests for the Bruins.

The Pickerington, Ohio, native connected on 13-of-18 shots from the field and finished with 30 points, seven boards and four blocks at Eastern Washington. He followed that with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 13 points in the second half, along with eight rebounds in a victory at Middle Tennessee.

Muszynski is posting 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game through eight contests this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Middle Tennessee’s Hayes named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Middle Tennessee’s Anastasia Hayes garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, recording 17.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists along with a pair of 20-point outings in three games for the Blue Raiders.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native posted 11 points and five assists in Middle Tennessee’s win against Auburn. The sophomore collected 20 points and five boards against 21st-ranked Gonzaga and ended the three-day event in Estero, Fla., with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting with four rebounds in a one-point loss to Arizona State.

Hayes netted 13 of her 20 points versus ASU in the second half, helping the Blue Raiders to a one-point lead with a minute to play. She is averaging 17.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in eight games this season.

FOOTBALL: Tennessee’s Guarantano, Carson-Newman’s Peebles earn TSWA weekly awards
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Tennessee’s Jarrett Guarantano and Carson-Newman’s Rondrow Peebles were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for their efforts in contests from November 17-23.

Guarantano completed 23-of-40 passes for a career-best 415 yards and two touchdowns. Seven receivers caught passes in the win at Missouri, including three players with 100-plus yards for the first time in program history. He moved into eighth on the all-time passing list with the Vols with 4,721 yards, surpassing UT assistant coach Tee Martin.

Guarantano has completed 61 percent of his throws for 1,817 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games this season.

Peebles posted eight tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks in a 17-9 win at 11th-ranked Bowie State in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Knoxville, Tenn., native helped the Eagles’ defense hold BSU to 0-for-5 in the red zone, forcing a pair of turnovers, along with a season-low in points. He collected two sacks and another tackle for loss in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles halted Bowie State's 11-game winning streak overall and its nine-game home winning streak. Carson-Newman ended a four-game road playoff losing streak and a four-game road losing streak to ranked teams. Bowie State was the highest ranked team the Eagles have beaten since defeating No. 5 North Alabama in the playoffs in 2009.  That contest represents one of now three road playoff victories for Carson-Newman since moving to Division II. 

Peebles leads the Eagles with 86 total tackles, 18.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks while adding four quarterback hurries.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Memphis’ Achiuwa earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– University of Memphis freshman Precious Achiuwa was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, registering 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two victories for the Tigers.

The Queens, N.Y., native posted 16 points and 12 boards versus Little Rock, hitting 6-of-13 shots while adding two assists and two steals. He netted 13 of his 16 points and grabbed nine of his 12 caroms after halftime against the Trojans.

Achiuwa collected a season-best 25 points with 11 rebounds and three steals versus Ole Miss, tallying nine points in a 19-8 spurt to begin the second half. He is averaging 15.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in six games this season for Memphis.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Middle Tennessee’s Charity Savage garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, averaging 12.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two wins for the Blue Raiders.

The Memphis, Tenn., native recorded 18 points and 10 boards against Tennessee Tech, hitting 7-of-12 shots and 3-for-6 at the foul line. The senior followed that with seven points, 13 rebounds and three assists versus Furman, becoming the first player in program history to record double-figure rebounds in five consecutive games to begin the season.

Savage is averaging 10.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game through five contests this season.

FOOTBALL: Memphis’ White, Carson-Newman’s Jureidini-Wyche earn TSWA weekly awards
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– University of Memphis quarterback Brady White and Carson-Newman’s Trayzel Jureidini-Wyche were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for their efforts in contests from November 11-16.

The Newhall, Calif., native completed 22-of-33 passes for 341 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another score in a 45-27 victory at Houston. The junior tossed scoring throws of six, 23, 16, six and 28 yards and added a 14-yard TD run for the Tigers.

It marked the seventh 300-yard passing game of White’s career and the five passing touchdowns tied his career high. He has thrown for 2,852 yards with 28 touchdowns while completing 67 percent of his throws this season.

Jureidini-Wyche registered eight tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in Carson-Newman’s victory against Tusculum. The Douglasville, Ga., native collected the third most tackles for loss and the third most sacks in single-game school history for the Eagles, who held Tusculum to negative-34 yards rushing.

He netted one sack in both the second and third quarters and added the final 2.5 in the fourth period. Carson-Newman posted 15.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks in the victory. Jureidini-Wyche has 12.0 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks along with 19 total stops in 10 games this season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Kunkel earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Adam Kunkel was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 31.5 points in a pair of victories for the Bruins.

The Hebron, Ky., native hit 10-of-14 shots and 7-for-11 from 3-point range, netting 28 points in 24 minutes against Samford. The sophomore posted a career-best 35 points in a win at Boston College, connecting on 10-of-20 shots overall with five 3-pointers. He also made all 10 free throw attempts.

Kunkel is averaging 25.3 points through three games, shooting 56 percent from the field overall and 55 percent from 3-point range.

– Carson-Newman’s Kayla Marosites garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, registering 23.5 points and 19.5 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles in two wins for the Eagles.

The Elizabethton, Tenn., native recorded the first 20-20 game in school history versus King University, posting 27 points and 22 rebounds with nine assists. She made 9-of-18 shots overall with three 3-pointers and was 6-for-7 at the foul line.

The senior guard followed that with 20 points, 17 boards, four assists and four steals in a second meeting against King three days later, connecting on 5-of-15 shots but hitting 9-for-10 at the foul line. She is averaging 19.3 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season.
