Memphis' Davenport, Belmont's Roy earn TSWA college honors

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Memphis’ Davenport named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– University of Memphis forward Kyvon Davenport earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades Tuesday, averaging 13.5 points and 13.5 rebounds with a pair of double-doubles in two wins for the Tigers.

The Gainesville, Ga., native registered 15 points and a career-best 15 rebounds in just 25 minutes in a victory over Arkansas-Little Rock, hitting 5-of-8 shots with one 3-pointer against the Trojans. The senior recorded 12 points and 12 boards in a win in 19 minutes of action against Tennessee State, connecting on 8-for-12 at the foul line.

It marked the third straight double-double and fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season for Davenport. It was also the 12th and 13th double-doubles of his two-year career with the Tigers. He is averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Belmont’s Roy garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Belmont’s Jenny Roy posted Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors Tuesday, recording 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two wins for the Bruins.

The Brentwood, Tenn., native collected 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals in a victory at Chattanooga, hitting 5-of-8 shots overall. It marked the first win for the Bruins over the Mocs in 40 years.

The senior guard followed that with a career-high 17 points along seven boards, four assists and three blocks in a win versus Arkansas State. Roy connected on 7-of-8 shots with a pair of 3-pointers. She is averaging 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season for Belmont.

Austin Peay's Taylor, King's West earn TSWA weekly honors

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Austin Peay’s Taylor named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades Tuesday, registering a double-double, including a career-best 32 points, in a victory against Purdue-Fort Wayne.
The Bowling Green, Ky., native made 14-of-22 shots overall, netting 18 points in the first half and 14 in the second. The sophomore forward grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out a career-best five assists for his fifth double-double of the year in 10 outings.

Taylor is averaging 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds this year for the Govs.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s West garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Kori West posted Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors Tuesday, averaging 15.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in two games for the Tornado.

The Shelby, N.C., native recorded 11 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a six-point loss to Carson-Newman. The junior connected on 5-of-12 shots overall and collected her fifth double-double of the year.

West followed that with 19 points, 12 boards and three blocks at Newberry College, as the Tornado handed the Wolves their first loss of the season. She made 8-of-17 shots from the field and ran her double-double streak to five straight.

West is averaging 15.8 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season.
