Middle Tennessee's Upshaw, Petty sweep TSWA awards

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Middle Tennessee’s Upshaw named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee’s Reggie Upshaw earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, scoring a career-high 34 points with nine rebounds and four steals in the Conference USA opener against UAB.

The Chattanooga, Tenn., native made 11-of-16 shots overall with a career-high four 3-pointers and also connected on 8-of-11 at the foul line for his career-best 34 points. The senior forward became the fourth player in Blue Raider history and just the 13th player in C-USA history to reach 1,250 career points and 750 career rebounds, surpassing both marks against the Blazers in the 60-49 victory.

Upshaw is averaging 15.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game this season for Middle Tennessee.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Middle Tennessee’s Petty earns TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee’s Ty Petty garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, registering 25.0 points, 2.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a pair of games and posting her 1,000th career point for the Blue Raiders.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native collected 21 points, four rebounds and four assists versus Central Michigan, moving into seventh place on the career assists list in the contest against the Chippewas. The senior guard netted a career-best 29 points in a come-from-behind win at UAB in the Conference USA opener.

Petty hit three 3-pointers and made all 10 of her free throw attempts, running her streak to consecutive made foul shots to 31 against the Blazers. She became the 30th member of the 1,000-point club at Middle Tennessee in the victory and is averaging 15.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season.
